I was privileged to meet Terry when I was in New York in 2004 for a two-week symposium on writing about music and opera, sponsored by Columbia University. He filleted my offering in a way that was brutal without ever being mean-spirited (and, of course, he was absolutely right about what I had turned in). I lost my first wife a little before Hilary passed away, and we shared a few messages about the difficulty of navigating life alone. He was someone I always admired. Thank you for sharing your memories of him

Wow, this hits hard. I remember the early days of blogging and how kind he was. I didn't know him in real life, some exchanged emails, etc., but I remember him with so much fondness. This is a lovely tribute Sarah.
